Critics' Choice nominations vault 'The Shape of Water' into best picture race

The wide-open Oscar race has definitively narrowed in favor of Guillermo del Toro, as one of the most reliable Oscar portents, the Broadcast Film Critics Association, lifts The Shape of Water into the best picture conversation with a staggering 14 nominations. Leading all film nominees by a significant margin, The Shape of Water‘s success with the BFCA also sees lead actress Sally Hawkins picking up her second major notice on the awards trail thus far, just three days after she took the Los Angeles Film Critics Association’s best actress prize.
