Volunteer finds letter written for dying soldier by Walt Whitman

A letter written by Walt Whitman on behalf of a dying soldier to his wife has been discovered by a volunteer leafing through Civil ar pensions applications. Whitman travelled to the front civil war in 1862 to care for his wounded brother and, according to Whitman scholar Kenneth Price, “repeatedly mentions writing letters for soldiers” in his collection of diary entries in "Memoranda During the War." But “although Whitman mentions writing these types of letters often, very few have survived.
