If Canada legalizes betting on single sports events, it could claw billions of dollars from the shady world of organized crime. Cash would be pumped into health care, education and other social programs. Authorities would be better equipped to sleuth out incidents of match-fixing by athletes. Yet making the vice more readily available would also come with a social cost. It may well create new problem gamblers...
