When two fledgling British photographers, Terry O’Neill and Gered Mankowitz, got their respective jobs shooting the Rolling Stones in the mid-1960s, the group itself was an emerging act: a raw-sounding, roguish-looking blues band whose repertoire was stacked with cover songs.
