In 2018, the question in both comedy and social media has been: How far is too far? At 11:45 Monday night, Roseanne Barr, and the hundreds of people employed by ABC's reboot of "Roseanne," found out. Replying to a tweet about a WikiLeaks report claiming that the CIA spied on French presidential candidates during the Obama administration, Barr, almost as an aside, referred to former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett as the offspring of the Muslim Brotherhood and the "Planet of the Apes" film franchise.

What makes us well? Diversity, health care, and cycling to work matter
Diverse neighbors. Health centers. Commuter trains. These community attributes, and other key factors, are linked to well-being and quality of life, according to Yale researchers. In a new nationwide study of more than 300,000 adults, the Yale-led team found that people who live in communities that offer racial diversity, access to preventive health care, and public transportation, among other elements, are more likely to report high levels of well-being, the researchers said.

All the books Bill Gates has recommended over the last eight years
Bill Gates has become a powerful influence on publishing. An endorsement from the philanthropist and Microsoft cofounder can cause tangible sales spikes, reminiscent of the golden ticket that once came with being picked for Oprah’s book club. So just what does Gates read? Quartz manually compiled all 186 of the books mentioned on his blog, which dates back to January 2010, and organized them by topic. We’ve included all titles, even those of which Gates was mostly critical, like Matt Ridley’s The Rational Optimist. But this is relatively rare; Gates usually only blogs about books he recommends.

For What It's Worth, Bruce Campbell Gives His Blessing to 'Evil Dead' Continuing Without Him
What’s next for the Evil Dead franchise, now that “Ash vs. Evil Dead” is over and Bruce Campbell has officially retired from playing Ash Williams? Is there even a “next”? Well, Fede Alvarez recently kinda-sorta expressed interest in making a sequel to his remake, and there are certainly any number of ways the franchise could continue without Bruce. On a related note, franchise producer Rob Tapert just recently noted that he and Sam Raimi “have been talking about what a new incarnation would be.”

Leah Remini's Next A&E Project to Tackle Jehovah's Witnesses
Leah Remini has her sights set on a new project for A&E, one that will keep her focused on religion. According to sources, Remini will produce a special for A&E that focuses on Jehovah's Witnesses, to air during a break following season three of the Emmy-winning Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath. The religion, while based on Biblical teachings, has come under fire for some practices such as ousting or shunning members who have dissenting views, refusing to participate in politics or government, not celebrating birthdays or Christmas and for multiple predictions of Armageddon that have yet to come true.

Bach at the Burger King
AT THE CORNER of 8th and Market in San Francisco, by a shuttered subway escalator outside a Burger King, an unusual soundtrack plays. A beige speaker, mounted atop a tall window, blasts Baroque harpsichord at deafening volumes. The music never stops. Night and day, Bach, Mozart, and Vivaldi rain down from Burger King rooftops onto empty streets. Empty streets, however, are the target audience for this concert. The playlist has been selected to repel sidewalk listeners — specifically...

How 2 Million People Loved MoviePass Nearly to Death
Hannah Wolfe became a MoviePass Inc. member, hit the pricey theaters of New York, and began doing her part to drive the company out of business. Since paying the $9.95 monthly fee for the movie-a-day service in January, Wolfe has seen Black Panther and most of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Best Picture nominees. Twelve films in total, at no additional cost to her. “It seemed a little too good to be true, especially in New York where movies cost like $16 each,” she says. “It feels like I haven’t paid for the ticket.”

What Is Actually at Stake on ‘Westworld’?
There was a thrilling scene in a recent episode of Westworld. As “Virtù e Fortuna” began, we were given our first glimpse of another Delos park, this one apparently constructed to resemble the British Raj. Two new human characters, a man and a woman, met and, as so often happens in Westworld, soon spilled blood and swapped fluids.

There are STILL Guardians Easter eggs fans haven't seen
There are a lot of Guardians of the Galaxy-related developments we're still coming to terms with thanks to Avengers: Infinity War, but we have just the tonic for all that trauma. And that is re-watching volumes one and two, of course! Why? Because, as well as giving us that much-needed nostalgia hit (of happier times), it turns out there are a lot of Easter eggs yet to be found in the films.

MLB Bans Cruel Practice Of Castrating Mascots
NEW YORK—Saying that the “antiquated and barbaric procedure” has no place in modern baseball, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred announced Monday that the league was banning the brutal practice of castrating mascots. “Despite being a long accepted practice among team owners, the MLB executive board has determined that it is unethical and dangerous to perform the invasive act of removing a mascot’s genitals,” said Manfred, responding to public outcry over what many consider to be a cruel surgery, which teams claim makes mascots docile, easy to train, and prevents them from attacking fans.
