OJ Simpson could walk free from prison in months as a multi-millionaire

OJ Simpson could walk free from jail in a few months after serving less than a third of his sentence before cashing in on his multi-million dollar NFL pension. The former American football star could be released exactly nine years into his 33-year sentence after he was jailed for a string of crimes including armed robbery and kidnapping in 2008. A parole board hearing on 3 July is expected to recommend the 69-year-old’s release based on good behaviour.

A game that takes most of its players on a fun adventure may have lead one Virginia man to his death. According to a local attorney, 60-year-old Jiansheng Chen of Chesapeake was playing Pokémon Go on Thursday when he was shot and killed by a neighborhood security guard, KTLA sister station WTKR reported. “I did not want the public to misunderstand Mr. Chen,” said the attorney Greg Sandler, who believes the incident escalated partially because of a language barrier.

Nike's New Women in Sports Ad Striking Nerve in Arab World

An online commercial released by Nike this week that showed Arab women fencing, boxing and spinning on ice-skates has stirred controversy over its attempt to smash stereotypes about women leading home-bound lives in the conservative region. It begins with a woman nervously peering out of her doorway and adjusting her veil before going for a run in the street, while a female voice narrates in a Saudi dialect: "What will they say about you? Maybe they'll say you exceeded all expectations."

Cult of Outrage: 'Walking Dead' Star Slams T-shirt Controversy: 'People Are Stupid'

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is shocked and stunned by The Walking Dead T-shirt controversy — shocked and stunned, that is, that anybody would find the shirt controversial in the first place. To recap: U.K. department chain Primark pulled a Walking Dead T-shirt (image below) from its stores after a customer complained the clothing item is “racist” and “offensive.” The shirt featured Negan’s signature Lucille baseball bat and his victim-selecting rhyme, “Eeny meeny miny moe, catch a tiger by the toe…” The problem? About 100 years ago, that rhyme commonly used the N-word instead of “tiger.”

Ancient Egyptian Stories Will Be Published in English for the First Time

While people may view inscriptions in Greek or Latin as pretty, they still recognize their merit as text. Indeed, writings from ancient Greece and Rome are revered and considered classics of Western literature. Egyptian hieroglyphics, however, are often seen as mere decoration. Sometimes, the characters are literally used as wallpaper.

Four Lessons for Storytellers from Four Movies of 2016

Four Lessons for Storytellers from Four Movies of 2016

2016 was a pretty good year for movies- at least, it was from my perspective. While there were some notable disappointments (Batman v. Superman being my least favorite film of the year), there were also some great surprises, such as the mysterious and moving Midnight Special. Even the big budget popcorn flick Captain America: Civil War was brimming with character and surprisingly good writing. Four movies from 2016 really left me thinking about what storytellers across mediums stand to learn by watching them. Be forewarned, this article includes spoilers...

This Year's Adaptation of Stephen King's 'It' Will Be Scary and Rated R

One of the many problems with the beloved 1990 adaptation of Stephen King’s It is that it was made-for-television, which served to rob the source material of much of its terror. I’m personally of the mind that the mini-series adaptation left much to be desired, and the good news with Andy Muschietti’s upcoming feature adaptation is that it’s not going to be pulling any punches.
