Hugo Gernsback (1884-1967) has mostly vanished from our cultural memory, which is a pity, because he was an extraordinary man, and his influence on our modern age—electrical, science-permeated, and full of wonders—was outsized. By James Gleick.

Rumor: Fallout New Vegas 2 details leaked and reveal planned
Our insider source is back with some new information, and it’s a big one. First a little recap on this source of ours: We’ve had a spectacular track record with this source in the past. As you may recall we were the first to accurately leak Red Dead Redemption 2 details. Other Websites like Forbes even tried to make fun of us for it. They weren’t laughing very long. Our source also accurately called The Last Of Us 2 reveal weeks before it dropped. Reddit didn’t know whether or not to believe us. They were believers a few weeks later.

Samantha Bee Is Hosting an Alternative to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner
Given President Donald Trump's recent clashes with the media, which he called the "opposition party," it's hard to imagine the press and the Trump administration having a chummy or even cordial iteration of the star-studded White House Correspondents' dinner this year. And given the president's unwillingness to withstand any roasting, it's also hard to imagine that any comedian chosen to perform will feel free to make the traditional jokes at the commander-in-chief's expense.

For Librarians, 2017 Is Off to a Rough Start

When Did the Environment Become a Partisan Issue?
When it comes to the environment, it seems that political divisions in America only grow wider. According to a recent survey by the Pew Research Center, 90 percent of Democrats believe that the “country should do whatever it takes to protect the environment,” compared with 52 percent of Republicans. But it wasn’t always that way. American Experience spoke with environmental historian Naomi Oreskes, author of the book Merchants of Doubt, about the early days of environmental activism, and how it gained — and then lost — broad bipartisan support. By Cori Brosnahan.

Why Orwell’s ‘1984’ matters so much now
President Trump may not be a big reader, but he’s been a boon for sales of dystopian literature. Amid our thirst for adult coloring books and stories about missing girls and reincarnated puppies, some grim old classics are speaking to us with new urgency. Ray Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451 ,” Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World ” and Margaret Atwood’s “The Handmaid’s Tale ” have all risen up the latest paperback bestseller list.

An Incomplete Dossier of Evidence That Donald Trump Doesn’t Read

A comic book nerd won a city council seat — and was sworn in holding his Captain America shield
Lan Diep has been collecting comic books since the third grade and has paid more than he’s willing to admit for things that don’t, technically, exist in the real world. He owns a working Ghostbusters trap, for example. And he keeps a piece of kryptonite under glass, just in case the Superman truthers are right. But he concedes there are few opportunities for a grown, adult lawyer to whip out things that some people would choose to classify as toys. So they’ve languished in his closet, safe from scratches, thieves and those who would mercilessly mock him. But a month ago, things changed. Diep realized his life until this point had just been

But while these well-bankrolled clubs are on a government-promoted transfer binge to promote growth, some other mainstream sports are receiving quite the opposite sort of treatment.

Gore's new movie highlights alternative energy in deep-red Texas. Will it win over skeptics?
In his 2006 film "An Inconvenient Truth," former vice president Al Gore warned that humanity had 10 years to avoid reaching an environmental "point of no return."
